This winter has been one of the very worsts that I can recall in recent memory and that is coming from someone who lives in New York. With colder than average temperatures combined with some of the worst winter storms that we have seen in the last decade, we have taken a beating here in the frigid north. You would think that we were living in the arctic! I had to call for a tree service in brooklyn ny when my neighbor’s tree came crashing down onto his brand new Mercedes – I feel for the guy, really, but why he would park that beautiful piece of machinery under a tree like that during an ice storm is beyond me. But, after seeing such wanton destruction by nature, I knew I was going to have to take steps to ensure that no tree came crashing onto my roof or my head, for that matter! We’re lucky enough to have trees on our lot unlike most of New York City residential areas – and as such, we paid a huge premium for the luxury of having more green than other people in the city. Now, though, after years of abuse by storms, wind, ice and rain these trees have finally given way to the demands of mother nature. The tree service told us we were lucky to call when we had as two of the trees had already suffered some serious integrity failures and may have fallen in the next big storm! I can only count my blessings that I don’t have a Mercedes to be crushed by a tree but what I do have is a home that I value. I felt bad for the trees but hey, I can’t build a tree house and stay warm in it during winter!
